The new LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 75mm f/2.0 ASPH is designed to be universal in its usage, as good at infinity as in the close range and at all apertures but its very natural rendering of details (very low distortion and vignetting) as well as its performance at open aperture and at close range make it particularly suitable for lively available light portraits or to isolate part of the picture when doing a reportage. The very natural looking perspective of this focal length make beautiful portraits possible with a three-dimensional feel to them. Decisive image elements can be emphasized without the image losing its expression of true reality. The optical performance is excellent at wide-open aperture. As the MTF curves show the contrast reproduction only slightly increases by stopping down. The closest focus distance is 0.7 m (27 in.) against 1m for the 90mm general-purpose lenses. A new velvety matt finish makes the Leica APO-SUMMICRON-M 75mm f/2.0 ASPH immune to flare. Distortion is not a concern and barely visible in real life.
